Terhi Tolvanen: Between control and freedom


Jewellery artist Terhi Tolvanen will talk about the dialogue between man and nature - the main theme of her work. During the lecture she will show pictures of her pieces and the work of other artist's, who has inspired her.

Terhi Tolvanen is originally from Finland where she was born in Helsinki in 1968. In 1993, she became silversmith at the Design Institute in Lahti, Finland.

She continued her education at the Gerrit Rietveld Academy in Amsterdam and was invited to study at the Sandberg Institute for her Master of Arts degree, which she obtained in 1999. After her graduation she lived and worked in Amsterdam for almost twenty years. Four years ago she moved to live in the French countryside.

Since her graduation Tolvanen has exhibited her work in many solo- and group exhibitions internationally. Her jewellery is represented in many collections of major museums around the world, such as the Schmuck Museum in Pforzheim in Germany; Victoria&Albert Museum in London, UK; Stichting Françoise van den Bosch, Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam, Netherlands; Coda Museum in Apeldoorn, Netherlands.
